The Folsom Falls Ranch is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Northeastern New Mexico. Our colorful longhorns graze along the Dry Cimarron River and climb the rim rock up to the peak of Emery Mountain (7300ft.)

The herd is predominately from the Yates bloodlines. Most of our herd is registered in both the TLBAA and Cattlemen's Registries.  We are active members of several longhorn affiliate clubs including: Mountains and Plains Texas Longhorn Breeders, Texas Longhorn Breeders of New Mexico TLB of New Mexico , Golden Spread Texas Longhorns and Northern Rockies Longhorn Association.

Our ranch specializes in raising novelty steers.  We select steers for their friendly personalities first, then confirmation and color are taken into consideration.  We are breaking a few of these gentle giants to be riding steers. Celebrity Steer, "Real Beef" recently joined our herd.  As a riding steer he has been featured in television commercials and is willing to makes guest appearances.

The ranch has a fine selection of cows, calves, heifers, bulls, and novelty steers for sale.  Visit our Own your Own page for more information on available animals.  Longhorn bulls are frequently used on other breeds for first calf heifers.  They greatly reduce or eliminate the need for birthing assistance.

We also sell great tasting Longhorn beef by the whole or half which is much lower in cholesterol than most beef.

Longhorns can be intimidating in appearance with their massive horns and enormous stature.  However they are truly gentle giants.  Most of our  animals can be hand feed and will walk right up to you to get a cube and say hello.  As you can see some of our characters prefer to have their cubes delivered.  This is Festus (the Boss's favorite).  He is the main character of our children's books, cartoon books and calendars.

Many friends and family members come to visit and test their cowboy skills each year. The antics of our Longhorns, and our visitors are depicted in our annual Folsom Fallies cartoon calendar.  Visit our Folsom Fallies Page and the Cartoon Corral for a few good belly laughs.

This corner of New Mexico just reeks with history.  The Granada/Fort Union Cutoff of the Santa Fe Trail cuts through the Ranch.  The trail began at Fort Dodge, Kansas, ran into the Oklahoma Panhandle, and briefly up this section of the Cimarron River to the Folsom Falls. It went east of Capulin Mountain and on southwest to Wagon Mound, ending at Santa Fe.  Charles Goodnight grazed his herds of longhorn cattle on the nearby Capulin Vega.   He trailed 600,000 head of cattle from Texas to Wyoming through these parts in the eight years between 1866 and 1875.  And if that isn't enough history one of the most important archaeological finds ever made in North America was discovered near here. A black cowboy by the name of George McJunkin discovered a large deposit of bones protruding from the bank of the Dry Cimarron River in 1908.  His discovered evidence of the "Folsom Man". His discovery confirmed that man has been in these parts for about 10,000 years.
