Molly Q's Trashy Travels Through the Water Cycle
Written and Illustrated by Kristene Newcomb
Molly Q, the water drop, takes us on a visual journey through the water cycle. The adventure begins with Molly Q trapped in a glacier. After a trip into an aquifer, she transpires through an oak leaf. As she continues her travels, she encounters gobs of garbage. The animals she passes must endure loads of litter. Molly Q gives us a comprehensive look at the water cycle, while introducing environmental awareness.

Lets Get Moving Activities
Molly Q's Bean
Bag Toss- Students sit in a circle. One student begins by throwing
the bean bag to another student saying "precipitation" the student
catching the bag must throw it to a new student and say either seepage or
run-off, the next student catching the bean bag must say the next correct term.
If a student fails to say an appropriate term or throws the bean bag over the
student that is trying to catch it he or she turns away from the circle until
the next student misses. (Only one student can be out at a time.)
Acceptable progressions for terms are: Precipitation, seepage, ground
water, aquifer, transpiration, condensation, precipitation or
Precipitation, run-off, evaporation, condensation precipitation. Other
combinations can work as well for example it is possible for aquifer water to
become part of the run-off as it enters a spring. Also glaciers can be
incorporated into the game. Glacial water can run-off into oceans and
rivers or it can sublimate, which is the process ice goes through when it
evaporates from its solid form. In this case glacier will follow precipitation.
An examples of a glacial progression is precipitation, sublimation,
condensation, precipitation and precipitation, glacier, run-off, evaporation,
condensation, and back to precipitation. Count how many cycles students
can create before a student misses. Use your own bean bag or email me to find out how you can get
your Molly Q bean bag.
